A doença arterial periférica (DAOP) consiste em uma obstrução
parcial ou total do fluxo arterial devido ao depósito de placas de
gordura nas paredes dos vasos sanguíneos.
Geralmente afeta as artérias das pernas, sendo um processo lento
onde o paciente pode inicialmente não sentir nada, pode sentir dor ao
caminhar e no estágio mais avançado, pode sentir dor em repouso.
O tratamento consiste em eliminar os fatores de risco (principalmente
controle do diabetes, da pressão arterial, do colesterol e cessar
tabagismo) e restabelecer o fluxo arterial por cirurgia ou
procedimentos endovasculares.
